Program Structure
The program is divided into two sub-programmes: Business Communication and Media Studies. Students begin specializing in their chosen field from the third semester for full-time students or the fourth semester for part-time distance learning students.
First Year
In the initial year, students build a strong foundation in communication, media, and culture theories. They explore the historical development of these fields and examine contemporary changes in the media landscape. Additionally, students enhance their language proficiency and writing skills, which are crucial for effective communication.
Second Year
The second year allows students to delve deeper into their chosen specialization. Whether it's journalism, advertising, corporate communication, or multimedia studies, students gain in-depth knowledge of the theoretical principles and practical applications specific to their field.
Third Year
The final year focuses on practical application of acquired knowledge. Students have the opportunity to create and implement their own projects, gaining valuable real-world experience. The program culminates in the development of a bachelor's thesis, allowing students to demonstrate their expertise in their chosen area of communication science.
Public Speaking and Presentation Skills
Public speaking and presentation skills are integral to a communication science education. These skills are often developed through various coursework and practical assignments throughout the program. Mastering the art of public speaking and creating compelling presentations can significantly enhance a student's career prospects in the field of communications.
Effective public speaking and presentation skills enable graduates to confidently pitch ideas to clients or stakeholders, deliver engaging presentations at conferences or industry events, lead team meetings, and facilitate group discussions. As students progress in their careers, these skills become increasingly valuable, often setting them apart in competitive job markets and opening doors to leadership positions in communication-related fields.
We are very fortunate to have experts on public speaking from Keynote Speaker Agency and Motivational Speaker Agency on hand who will guide us through this curriculum.
Practical Experience and International Opportunities
The program emphasizes practical experience through internships, allowing students to work in leading media companies, corporations, and institutions. This hands-on experience provides invaluable insights into the industry and helps students build professional networks.
Furthermore, the ERASMUS exchange program offers students the chance to study at one of 20 partner universities across Europe. This international exposure broadens students' perspectives and enhances their cross-cultural communication skills, which are highly valued in today's globalized job market.
Career Prospects
Graduates of the Communication Science program enjoy diverse career opportunities. They are well-prepared for roles in public relations and advertising agencies, television, radio, print, and digital media outlets, corporate communication departments, and government and non-profit organizations. The skills and knowledge acquired through this program enable graduates to effectively manage communication with partners, customers, and the public in various professional settings.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the program is competitive and based on several criteria, including centralized examination results in Latvian language, English (or French or German), and mathematics. For international students or those with special needs, annual grades in relevant subjects are considered.
